A leader in geohazard engineering, KANE GeoTech, Inc. specializes in difficult civil and geotechnical engineering problems. Dr. William F. Kane founded the company in 1997 after 20 years of experience in geotechnical research and consulting.
Dr. William F. Kane is President of KANE GeoTech, Inc., which he founded in 1997. He received his BA (1975) in geology from James Madison University and MS (1981) and PhD (1985) degrees in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. An award-winning professor, Dr. Kane taught civil engineering and engineering geology at the universities of Tennessee, Pacific, and Alabama Huntsville. He has authored or co-authored dozens of technical papers and reports. Professionally, Dr. Kane is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in 31 states and Puerto Rico, and a registered Professional Geologist (PG) in Tennessee. In addition to geoengineering consulting at KANE GeoTech, Inc., Dr. Kane conducts geotechnical engineering workshops in the US and internationally. Dr. Kane has trained with Geobrugg AG in Switzerland as well as Maccaferri, SpA in Italy, both leading manufacturers in the geohazard protection systems industry.
Joseph McElhany is Vice President of KANE GeoTech. He is a civil engineering staff engineer with over 16 years of experience providing civil and geotechnical consulting services. Joseph is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado, Hawai’i, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Oregon. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Pacific. Joseph’s responsibilities include: geotechnical analyses, structural engineering design, proposal and cost development, project management, submittals and specification prep, site investigations, and special inspections. He has trained with Geobrugg AG in Switzerland and Austria.
Brian Forsthoff is Director of Operations at KANE GeoTech. He is a staff engineer with over 12 years of experience providing civil and geotechnical consulting services. Brian earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State University – Sacramento in May of 2019. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina. Brian manages the drafting department and is responsible for personnel development, IT, and physical plant oversight. An expert in geotechnical/structural instrumentation, Brian is also highly experienced in geohazard mitigation having trained with Geobrugg AG, Switzerland, as well as Maccaferri in the Valle d’Aosta, Italy and Studio Castaldini in Verona, Italy.
Hunter Santsche, B.S. Geology, Staff Geologist at KANE GeoTech, Inc. A graduate of Sonoma State University with a B.S. in Geology (2023) and a UAS pilot, specializing in geohazard investigations, slope stability, rock flow and rockfall analysis. Hunter is a licensed drone pilot, creating 3D models and topographic maps. He has been involved in project oversight of slope stabilizations system installations, borehole logging, soil sampling, and geotechnical and slope stability investigations. Hunters’ role encompasses onsite quality assurance and implementation of company design standards, geotechnical report writing, data collection and analysis, and development of 3D models and maps using photogrammetry.
Tom is a Civil Engineering Technician at KANE GeoTech. Tom earned his Associates Degree in Architectural Drafting from San Joaquin Delta College. Tom works directly with our engineers and geologist to prepare plans and specifications. Tom’s attention to detail allows him to produce highly detailed drawings that benefit our clients in the field.
