Dr. William F. Kane is President of KANE GeoTech, Inc., which he founded in 1997. He received his BA (1975) in geology from James Madison University and MS (1981) and PhD (1985) degrees in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. An award-winning professor, Dr. Kane taught civil engineering and engineering geology at the universities of Tennessee, Pacific, and Alabama Huntsville. He has authored or co-authored dozens of technical papers and reports. Professionally, Dr. Kane is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in 31 states and a registered Professional Geologist (PG) in Tennessee. In addition to geoengineering consulting at KANE GeoTech, Inc., Dr. Kane conducts geotechnical engineering workshops in the US and internationally. Dr. Kane has trained with Geobrugg, A. G. in Switzerland as well as Maccaferri, S. P. A in Italy, both leading manufacturers in the geohazard protection systems industry.
Joseph McElhany is Vice President of KANE GeoTech. He is a civil engineering staff engineer with over 14 years of experience providing civil and geotechnical consulting services. Joseph is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Hawai’i, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Oregon. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Pacific. Joseph’s responsibilities include: geotechnical analyses, structural engineering design, proposal and cost development, project management, submittals and specification prep, site investigations, and special inspections. He has trained with Geobrugg, A. G. in Switzerland and Austria.
Brian Forsthoff is Director of Operations at KANE GeoTech. He is a staff engineer with over 12 years of experience providing civil and geotechnical consulting services. Brian earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State University – Sacramento in May of 2019. He manages the drafting department and is responsible for personnel development, IT, and physical plant oversight. An expert in geotechnical/structural instrumentation, Brian is also highly experienced in geohazard mitigation having trained with Geobrugg, Switzerland, as well as Maccaferri in the Valle d’Aosta, Italy and Studio Castaldini in Verona, Italy.
Presty Paulose is a Staff Engineering Geologist at KANE GeoTech. He specializes in geohazard site investigations, instrumentation and analyses including rockfall, slope stability, and debris flow. He also has experience in construction methods for rockfall and slope stability projects. Presty earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from University of Alberta in 2018, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Geology from ETH Zurich in September 2020.
Keith Hagen is a Staff Geologist at KANE GeoTech. He has 4 years of experience providing geological and geotechnical services. Keith earned his Bachelor of Science in Geology at California State Sacramento in Spring 2020. He specializes in fieldwork for the company, providing quality assurance on sites using company designs. His responsibilities also include geohazard site investigation, analyses, and the development of submittals for their mitigation.
